Week 18: Paddles Up — Bear
Kayaking across Pedersen Lagoon brought us to Addison Lake, where sea otters floated nearby and salmon churned the water. Then our guide quietly said, “Bear.” What followed was one of the most exhilarating wildlife encounters of the trip.
Week 16: Kenai Fjords
Sun replaced the rain in Seward as we boarded a small boat bound for Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge. What began as a calm departure through Resurrection Bay quickly unfolded into sea otters, bubble-net feeding humpbacks, sea lions, puffins, and towering cliffs. By the time we reached the gravel shoreline of Aialik Bay, we had already witnessed more than we expected — and the hidden lodge waiting in the trees felt like a quiet continuation of the wild.
