Week 7 - What Comes Home with You

Two coastal brown bears calmly feeding in a green Alaskan meadow with forest and mountains in the background.

A quieter moment — and a fitting way to say goodbye.

Leaving Alaska didn’t feel heavy.

It felt peaceful — the kind of calm that settles in when you know you’ve been given exactly what you needed. As the trip came to a close, there was no rush to hold on tighter. Just gratitude for what had been experienced, and a quiet readiness to carry it forward.

And alongside that calm was something else.

Exuberance.

A favorite — and only a glimpse of what’s still to be discovered.

I could already feel it — the excitement of knowing what I had captured. Thousands of images, many of them barely glanced at in the field. Moments of connection, light, and movement that I knew would reveal themselves slowly, frame by frame, once I was home and able to truly sit with them.

Some moments are still revealing themselves.

The images I’ve chosen to share here are intentionally curated for the unfolding of this story — complete, meaningful moments that stand on their own while still leaving room for more. Some of my most personal and powerful images are being held for the deeper, more immersive experience of the book, where the story will continue to take shape.

This seventh installment of Seen in My Lens: Alaska isn’t about marking time spent in Alaska, but about letting the story unfold, one chapter at a time.

As the landscape faded behind me, I wasn’t focused on what I was leaving. I was thinking about what I was bringing home — clarity, direction, and a renewed excitement for the creative process ahead.

And I knew something else, just as surely.

Alaska wasn’t finished with me.

I would be back — next time with Dave — ready to experience it again together, and to continue a story that had only just begun.
